Opening of the exhibition "Lost City"

The series of watercolors “Lost City” by Anna Filippovskaya was created based on archival photographs of destroyed churches of the early 20th century that were in St. Petersburg and the region.
This series reflects my love for urban space, for architectural monuments, especially for religious buildings.
Temples are pearls of urban development, these are angels left at the throne. Most of these buildings can no longer be restored to their usual place, but they should be in our memory and in the history of the city's architecture.
I also notice people who cross themselves when passing by Vosstaniya Square, knowing what stands in the foundation of the metro vestibule. Through love for watercolor and architecture, I want to send the viewer on a journey "back to the future."
I wanted to revive the city in watercolors and thus show the residents how beautiful it was and can still be.
This series reflects my love for urban space, for architectural monuments, for history. The profession of an architect leaves its mark on the careful attitude to architectural monuments. In St. Petersburg, a huge number of unique buildings have been lost, and these are not only religious buildings.
Artworks from this series are available here
